The Computer Aided Design Technology program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the CAD and drafting industry. For graduates with drafting and CAD skills, positions are available as Drafting Technicians in various fields.
This course covers the different types of engineering drawings, use of drawing equipment, freehand lettering, geometrical constructions, orthographic projections including auxiliary views and sections, and lines and planes in space. Specific drawing projects showing professional drafting quality must be completed in the time provided which is approximately 50% of the course. At this point the student may specialize in either Electro-Mechanical Drafting, Piping Drafting, Commercial Architecture and Structural Drafting , or Geographical Information Services (GIS) for the second half of their course. Upon completion of this 800 clock hour course, the student receives a certificate from Star Training Institute recognizing them as being fully certified at the level of Drafter. Computer Aided Design is taught in the students Basic Machine Drafting Course using the latest version of AutoCAD software. This skill is applied and enhanced in their Specialization course. Computer Aided Design Technology (CADT) is a program design to prepare students for positions in the CAD and drafting industry. The Program consists of the completion of Basic Machine Drafting plus one elective of Architectural\Structural Drafting, Electro-Mechanical Drafting, Geographical Information Services (GIS), or Piping Drafting.
